抄録: This paper is concerned with Dublin Merchants and the Repeal movement. The Repeal movement, which demanded the legislative independence of Ireland, spilt over not only onto the whole island, but also a part of the United Kingdom and the United States. By discussing various topics such as “Municipal Corporation Reform”, “Repeal Wardens” and “Repeal Reading Rooms”, I attempt to explain the role of Dublin Merchants in the movement. Especially, I emphasise the “Dublin Remonstrance” as a reform of the Repeal movement. In the “Dublin Remonstrance”, Dublin Merchants criticised the Repeal Association. This became the original motive for the establishment of the Irish Confederation in 1847.
